FGB Component Description (Continued) Component Function Scavenge Check Valve The scavenge check valve is installed in the scavenge line between the secondary oil separator and the inlet block. It prevents reverse flow in the scavenge line. Pressure Transducer The pressure transducer is a 2-wire pressure sensor installed at the gas outlet of the FGB. It transmits an analog signal to the VFD to indicate outlet pressure levels. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) The VFD is a variable frequency AC drive used to control the speed of the scroll compressors by adjusting the frequency of the power supplied to their motors. The VFD uses feedback from a pressure transducer to adjust compressor motors speed and regulate outlet pressure. Shutoff Relay The shutoff relay is a normally-open, Double Pole Double Throw relay. The relay will only energize when no FGB fault conditions exist. Once energized, both shutoff valves will be ready for operation. If any fault condition occurs, the shutoff relay will de-energize and disable both shutoff valves. Thermal Overload Relays Two current (thermal) overload relays are connected to the 3-phase wires between the VFD and the two compressor motors. If the AC current from the VFD exceeds the relays trip setpoint. Strainer Filter The strainer filter is a wire mesh gas strainer installed behind the inlet connector mount on the dual shutoff assembly. The strainer filter is used to protect sensitive internal valve components.
