Companies indicated how they obtained energy to run their kilns. The majority of companies (53.4%) purchased energy to run their kilns, while a number of companies (33.5%) created energy in-house and only a few of them (13.0%) used both methods. The average volume of lumber dried each year by respondents was 82,459,216 b.f. ± 15,475,795 b.f. (95% confidence interval). The minimum annual dried production was 100,000 b.f. and the maximum 470,000,000 b.f. Respondents were asked to list the species that they commonly dried. Since they could provide more than one species, the total percentage in Tables 4 and 5 below does not add up to 100%. Most companies (76.4%) dried softwoods, while only 10.2% of companies dried only hardwoods. An additional 13.4% of respondents dried both hardwoods and softwoods. Most companies (79.6%) that dried softwoods, dried a Spruce - Pine - Fir mix (see Table 4). The most frequently dried species was maple (14.6%) for companies that dried hardwoods or both softwoods and hardwoods (see Table 5). 2 In some tables or figures, the total percentage does not add up to 100%. Unless otherwise noted, this occurred because figures were rounded. 47
