Capstone Turbine Corporation ■ 21211 Nordhoff Street ■ Chatsworth ■ CA 91311 Service Bulletin: Battery Pack Service Criteria – Model 330 MicroTurbine This information applies to battery pack storage time only, while the battery isolation switch for the battery pack in the MicroTurbine is open. If the MicroTurbine is in sleep or standby mode, there is a parasitic load that will greatly reduce the allowable storage time. In sleep mode, the battery pack will require recharging after a maximum of 90 days (or the value noted in the previous table, if it is less than 90 days). In standby mode, the battery pack will require recharging after 12 to 24 hours. When the recommended recharge interval is reached, the battery pack voltage should be recorded, and then the MicroTurbine should be run, or the Capstone-approved external Battery Charger (Capstone Part Number 512080-001) should be used to recharge the battery pack. If using the external battery charger, the battery pack should be charged for a minimum of 6 hours, or until the current draw drops below 100 milliamps. If the MicroTurbine is run to recharge the battery, then a Manual Recharge or a Shutdown Recharge will be sufficient to charge the battery pack. (Refer to the Model 330 System Operation manual). If the battery pack voltage is still below 216 volts after the recharge, then the voltage should be recorded and the battery pack returned to Capstone Customer Service for inspection. NOTE If the MicroTurbine cannot be started due to a low battery (or for any other reason), then an external battery charger must be used to attempt a recharge of the battery pack. NOTE It is essential to understand that failure to start the MicroTurbine is only a cause to return the battery IF the battery has first been recharged using the external battery charger, AND there are no other fault indications with the MicroTurbine. Also, note that if the battery pack can be charged, but is too weak to start the MicroTurbine, then you may contact Capstone Customer Service for additional instructions. 512766-001 (July 2001) Page 3 of 8 Service Bulletin SB0023.
