Summary CRMS-APS software versions 1.13 and below contain an issue which may cause a significant safety risk to personnel. By design, when a turbine is in MultiPac Disable mode, only a direct command given to that individual turbine should be able to change its state to MultiPac Enable mode. However, for APS units running software version 1.13 or below, if an attempt is made to establish communication using a remote computer running CRMS-APS 1.13 or below, the software will automatically force the turbine into MultiPac Enable mode. Once in Enable mode, if proper conditions exist, the APS will start the turbine. This unexpected starting of the turbine poses a serious safety risk to any technician working on the system. Service work should always be performed with the system shut down and power OFF. Power OFF mode consists of grid isolation and, for Dual Mode/Stand Alone units, the battery switch being turned off. Required Action You must perform one of the following two options to correct this issue. 1. CRMS-APS v1.14, and higher, resolves this safety issue. Capstone recommends the following:  For systems running CRMS-APS v1.13 – Upgrade to v1.14 or higher. The resolution of the safety issue is the only change between versions 1.13 and 1.14 and should not affect any other functionality of your system.  For systems running CRMS-APS v1.12 or lower – Contact Capstone Technical Support to determine if upgrading to v1.14 is best for you. 450089 Rev A (September 2009) Page 1 of 4 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation with respect to equipment either previously sold or in the process of construction.
