C200 HRM Key Components C200 Microturbine 2.1. Combined Heating and Power (CHP) The C200 HRM is used for Combined Heating and Power (CHP) applications, which allows the user to realize the benefits of usable electrical and thermal power from a single fuel source. The electricity provides on-site power, and the heat supports local thermal loads such as space heating, pool heating and industrial process hot water. The following paragraphs describe how the C200 HRM is used in CHP applications. 2.1.1. Heat Recovery The C200 HRM transfers heat from the microturbine exhaust to water that flows through the HRM (see Figure 2). Water is pumped into the header manifold inlet, and then flows through a finned tube assembly in the HRM before exiting at the header manifold outlet. Up to two safety devices are installed in the header manifold outlet. The first is a thermocouple used to monitor the temperature of the water as it leaves the HRM. The second is an adjustable temperature switch that initiates a shutdown of the microturbine if it detects an over-temperature state, thus preventing the water in the HRM from overheating to a hazardous level. 400021 Rev B (October 2012) Page 11 of 26 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.
