LOAD – The total amount of electric power needed by customers at any given time. LOAD FACTOR – The sum of all hourly loads in a given period divided by the peak hourly load multiplied by the number of hours in the period. LOAD FOLLOWING – Load following falls into two categories: 1. Dedicating sufficient generating capacity to the automatic generator control (AGC) mode to allow them to follow load. 2. Monitoring mismatches between intended and actual interchanges between control areas, and transmitting control signals to AGC generators to minimize this mismatch. Both require a system to record mismatches (over-runs and under-runs). LOCAL AREA NETWORK – See LAN. LP - Low Pressure (fuel/gas). LP/BB-RFC - Low Pressure with Ball Bearing Rotary Flow Compressor. LP/FB-RFC - Low Pressure with Foil Bearing Rotary Flow Compressor. LPG – Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Mixture consisting mainly of propane and butane in varying amounts. M330 or Model 330 - Earlier designation for the Model C30 MicroTurbine. MAINTENANCE - The scheduled or planned event where routine and preventative maintenance is performed. Maintenance may involve the replacement of consumables based on a timetable (hours or cycles). Example of maintenance would be to replace filters every 4000 hours of operation. Also known as preventative maintenance. MAINTENANCE COMMUNICATION PORT (OR MAINTENANCE PORT) - A Dsub25 RS-232 communications port located in the UCB and is available for maintenance and troubleshooting purposes. The port is reserved for the use of the organization that is responsible for maintaining the MicroTurbine. Like the user port, the maintenance port may be connected to a local computer or to a modem for remote operation. The use of the maintenance port is protected by a required maintenance password, and allows additional capability over the user port. (The assumption is made that any person using the maintenance port has been trained by a Capstone-approved maintenance course). MAINTENANCE PARTS – A subset of service parts. Replacement parts that are replaced on a regularly scheduled basis. MANIFOLD – Device using solenoids to distribute fuel among injectors. Each solenoid is controlled individually. MEGAWATT, MW – A unit of electrical power equal to one million (1,000,000) watts or one thousand (1,000) kilowatts.
