Capstone Turbine Corporation UPS Controller User’s Manual Refer to Appendix A for a description of the logic used for the Imminent Shutdown alarm in your system. System Configuration A personal computer with Capstone CRMS and PLC software is required to configure the UPS Controller and associated Hybrid UPS microturbines. This includes setting protective relay values, nominal output frequency, nominal operating voltage, and other system parameters. Any custom software can also be uploaded to the UPS Controller’s PLC using the PC connected to the user port on the Ethernet switch. Once the system is configured, the PC can be disconnected and all configuration settings are stored locally in the UPS Controller and associated Hybrid UPS microturbines' non-volatile memory. Data Monitoring The PLC in the UPS Controller communicates via Ethernet to each Hybrid UPS microturbine to constantly gather real-time data and store it in specific registers that can be read using the Modbus TCP/IP connection. Refer to the UPS Controller Technical Reference (410081) for a table of standard data, along with associated conversion factors. Taking Hybrid UPS Microturbines In and Out of Service The UPS Controller can issue commands to individual Hybrid UPS microturbines in the MultiPac to disconnect them for service or other reasons. This is done by enabling or disabling them from the MultiPac. When disabled from the MultiPac, a Hybrid UPS microturbine is no longer available to provide power to the load output in any operating mode. Service Functions The same user connection on the Ethernet switch port that is used for a PC for initial configuration can also be used by Capstone Authorized Service Providers using Capstone Remote Monitoring System (CRMS) to read fault records, gain access to other diagnostic information, and download software as needed to resolve any field problems. Operating the UPS Controller Once properly installed and configured the UPS Controller can be operated in three ways, as will be described in the sections below. Operating Means The UPS Controller is able to control and display information from the Hybrid UPS microturbines connected to it in several ways. 1. Local Operation thru the HMI – the touch screen display panel on the UPS Controller is the local user interface. It allows the operator to set the system in Standby or Remote operation described below.
