PRELIMINARY Commissioning and Start-Up WARNING: Before attempting to start the Capstone 60, read all of this manual and ensure that the commissioning procedure has been completed by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider. Commissioning Completion of the commissioning process should precede initial start-up of the Capstone 60. The commissioning should be performed by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider (ASP). The commissioning process is intended to ensure proper installation and successful operation of the Capstone 60. The commissioning process includes an evaluation of: • Evaluationoftheinstallationincludingthefollowingfiveitems: • Site inspection • The mechanical installation • The fuel system • The electrical system • The communications interfaces • Configuring the Capstone 60 for operation • Capstone 60 operational checkouts At the completion of the commissioning process, the Capstone 60 is ready for normal operation, and a completed Commissioning Checklist is returned to Capstone. The return of the checklist is registration of the Capstone 60 warranty. The authorized service provider should establish and record initial operating parameters before starting the Capstone 60 for the first time in a new installation. Application Setup Grid Connect Setup The Capstone 60 may be connected in parallel to a utility grid to power local, grid connected loads. Employing the Capstone 60 in this fashion gives the user the capability to reduce the facility power demand by displacing utility power during peak periods. By operating the Capstone 60 in this mode, the user can insure a seamless supply of power to the local loads whether the Capstone 60 is on or off. Configuring the Capstone 60 for Grid Connect operation (and sometimes to local protective relay requirements) is required just once, at commissioning. These settings are described in Appendix A, Configuring the Capstone 60 for Operation. Capstone 60 Operation The Capstone 60 requires little or no user input during operation. Refer to the Systems Operation manual for detailed descriptions of how to start and operate the Capstone 60.
