PRELIMINARY Grid Connect Electrical Connections (Cont’d) Connection Circuits The Capstone 60, during Grid Connect operation, is designed for ground-referenced, balanced phase-to- neutral operation. The Capstone 60 must be connected to a solidly-grounded 4-wire wye circuit. You may want to consult with Capstone for information regarding connection of the Capstone 60 to other supply circuits, including 3- wire solidly- grounded wye, impedance-grounded wye systems, and corner solidly-grounded delta systems. For example, a connection circuit for 480V would look like this: a solid ground tion! An earth ground at the Capstone 60 is always required. Electrical wiring should conform to NFPA 70 and local electrical codes. Grounding The Capstone 60 case (ground terminal) must always be connected to earth ground during operation. For grid-connected installations, the neutral-to-ground post MUST be removed. Circuit Current Capacity and Wiring The selected output voltage of the Capstone 60 and applicable regulations will determine circuit current capacity requirements. Each Capstone 60 is rated to produce continuous current up to 100 amps on each phase. The United States National Electric Code (NEC) requires a branch circuit to be rated not less than 125% of rated load (NEC 220-3). Per NEC, typical minimum circuit ampacities would be 125 Amps. Typically, under NEC provisions, 600 VAC copper conductor is used for the High Voltage Terminal Block connection in the Power Bay. Per UL 2200, the tightening torque on the terminal block must be: Phase Rotation In Grid Connect operation, the Capstone 60 phase terminals may be connected to the grid in any order. Permitted Utility Connections Permitted utility connections are illustrated in the graphic representations on the next two pages.
