Liquid Fuel Indices The default fuel indices (FUELI1 and FUELI2) for diesel fuel #2 and for kerosene are noted below: • Diesel #2 Setting for FUELI1 = 1.00 • Diesel #2 Setting for FUELI2 = 1.00 • Kerosene Setting for FUELI1 = 0.98 • Kerosene Setting for FUELI2 = 1.075 The fuel indices are derived from the following liquid fuel index equations: • FUELI1 = [0.8358/Density][17454/LHV] • FUELI2 = LHV/17454 Service Access and Clearances Capstone recommends that the following clearances (listed in mm/in) be provided around the MicroTurbine for access to all of the connections. These access areas will provide for servicing and for repair efforts. E C F Liquid Fuel System Priming The fuel system is purged of any residual fuel after factory testing. Therefore, the system must be primed before initial operation by the user. Capstone recommends conducting repeated start attempts until the system is fully primed and operable. As many as 20 start attempts may be necessary before the system is primed. A software fault is normally declared after five failed start attempts. The fault is identified as MULTFAIL START -6023. This fault should be disregarded during the initial priming operation. However, power to the system must be cycled to OFF and then to ON in order to clear the fault message. Use the wall disconnect switch for a grid-connect system, or use the battery circuit breaker for a stand-alone system, to clear the software fault message. Upon completion of the priming operation, the system will start and may briefly exhibit smoke and speed oscillations until the air is purged from the fuel system. This is normal for liquid fueled systems and will cause no damage to the equipment. Liquid Fuel System Connections The fuel supply line from the fuel tank to the MicroTurbine should be approximately 3/8 inch pipe. Notice that an AN-6 37 degree flare fitting corresponds to a 3/8 inch pipe thread. For metric sizes, use the closest commercially available to 3/8 inch. The fuel fitting on the liquid fuel Model 330 is a male AN-6 37 degree flare fitting. Therefore, a female AN6- 37 degree flare fitting will be required to connect the customer supplied fuel system to the Capstone fuel system. Capstone does not supply an adapter fitting for the fuel connection. Capstone recommends draining the fuel tank at least once every two weeks, or after 10 failed start attempts, whichever comes first. The following illustrations depict the fuel tank location and the location of the purge valve.
