Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: C200/C1000 Fuel Gas Booster Mechanical Operation Natural gas fuel is supplied to the FGB through the dual shutoff assembly inlet. The shutoff assembly valves close or open depending on the fault status of the FGB or the turbine system. The inlet block distributes gas from the shutoff assembly to the scroll compressors through the connecting gas lines. A check valve is installed in the inlet block to prevent reverse gas flow back through the shutoff valves. The low pressure switch mounted on the shutoff assembly ensures that gas pressure entering the FGB is at a minimum level for operation. During operation, the scroll compressors cycle oil from the primary oil separator, through the oil/air heat exchanger and oil filter, through the compressors and back to the primary oil separator. The oil enters the primary oil separator mixed with gas from the compression process. After the primary oil separator separates the oil from the gas, the oil collects at the bottom of the separator and exits through the oil line to the heat exchanger and the gas exits through the gas line to the secondary oil separator. High temperature switches at the gas/oil outlet of each scroll compressor will command the shutoff valves to close if gas and oil temperatures are too high. The high pressure switch at the outlet of the primary oil separator will also close the shutoff valves if pressure output from the compressors is too high. The VFD in conjunction with the bypass valves ensures that the compressors operate at the minimum speed necessary to provide adequate lubrication. At the minimum speed, the compression system delivers more fuel than required by an idling C200 turbine. To control the outlet pressure under conditions of excess output from the compressors, the FGB includes two bypass valves. If pressure rises above a desired outlet level, the bypass valves open, returning some of the gas to the inlet block through the bypass lines. The pressure transducer also detects the elevated pressure and signals the VFD to reduce compressor speed. Once the lower compressor speed causes pressure to drop below a specified level, the bypass valves close, and the pressure transducer signals the VFD to increase compressor speed. The combination of bypass valve operation and compressor speed modulation provides a stable output from the FGB. The secondary oil separator removes any remaining oil from the gas before it leaves the FGB. The pressure transducer is installed at the outlet of the FGB to monitor the outlet pressure and feed back the pressure levels as an analog signal to the VFD. 410084 Rev A (February 2011) Page 8 of 13 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Technical Reference C200/C1000 Fuel Gas Booster (FGB)
