Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: C200 Hazardous Location Turbine Assembly 1 Locate in non-hazardous area a minimum distance of 4572 mm (15 ft) from turbine assembly or other fuel source. 2 Type 316 stainless steel 304 mm (12 in.) pipe. Pipe needs to be insulated and protected from mechanical damage throughout the classified area. Material for exhaust ducting and insulation must be rated to at least 371 °C (700 °F). The insulation material is required to be non-porous to minimize gas penetration on hot internal surfaces. 3 16 gauge 316 stainless steel pipe. Pipe needs to be protected from mechanical damage throughout the classified area. 4 16 gauge 316 stainless steel pipe. Horizontal sections. Must be installed with a 5° incline so that moisture or water flows away from turbine assembly. Pipe end must be facing down to prevent drawing moisture or rain into the engine. Pipe end must also include a screen to prevent foreign objects from entering. 5 Estimated length based on approximately 9144 mm (30 ft) of straight run with three 90° elbows. 6 Wires must be 18 AWG (0.823 mm2) shielded twisted pairs with max length of 152400 mm (500 ft). 7 If turbines are in MultiPac, the maximum length of all MultiPac cables combined must be 182880 mm (600 ft). 8 Connection locations are in the engine section. 9 Must be located in a non-hazardous area away from water and direct sunlight. 10 Each turbine assembly must have individual neutrals that are all grounded at the same point. 11 The design for all ducting, electrical lines, and fuel lines is the customer’s responsibility. Capstone’s scope ends at the point of connection to the turbine assembly. Figure 13. Typical Hazardous Location Installation (400 VAC Shown) 480047 Rev.
