Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: C200 Hazardous Location Turbine Assembly Battery Packs See Figure 11. As with all stand-alone capable systems, the C200 hazardous location turbine assembly is equipped with battery packs for black start and handling power transients. The hazardous location battery contactors are installed internally. The internal contactors enable disconnecting the battery by a remote signal. The batteries are completely disconnected when the turbine is not operating during the purge cycle and in the event of a safety shutdown. The remote operation is done by the hazardous location controller. See Figure 11 for the connector location. Relays The C200 hazardous location turbine assembly includes two relays (K1 and K2) that provide functions for the safe operation and monitoring of the turbine, as described in the following paragraphs. Relay K1 The coil of relay K1 must be energized for the system to operate. If power to K1 is removed, the system will immediately begin a warmdown sequence. When the hazardous location controller receives input from one of the hazardous location detectors that requires an engine shutdown, it transmits a fault signal to the UCB interface card. This operation also de-energizes the internal relays in the battery pack, which disconnects the batteries during shutdown, and de-energizes relay K1. De-energizing relay K1 commands the fuel controller to close the fuel shutoff valve and perform the warmdown sequence, providing an emergency shutdown scheme. Relay K2 Relay K2 energizes when the main power supply of the system is energized. It provides a contact signal to the Capstone controller or other monitoring device to notify that the turbine’s internal controller is energized. 480047 Rev.
