Quality control of all feedstock types is essential in order to ensure a safe recycling of digestate as fertiliser. The potential contaminants for some common AD feedstock types are shown in Table 3.3. Wastes of animal origin require special attention if supplied as substrate for AD. Regulation 1774/2002 of the European Parliament laid down health rules regarding handling and utilisation of animal by-products not intended for human consumption.
