Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: MultiPac Operation and Technical Information Power Connections Multi-phase AC high-power electrical connections are maintained on the back panel of the MicroTurbine, and should be installed at the time of commissioning. Refer to Model C30 Electrical Technical Reference (410000), Model C60/C65 Electrical Technical Reference (410001) and the MicroTurbine Electrical Installation Technical Reference (410009) for details on electrical connections. Signal Connections All MicroTurbine signal connections are connected through shielded conduit . The order of the connections is not important. The MultiPac operates by synchronizing the output, thus appearing as a larger generator to the local loads. Communication cabling is required between each MicroTurbine to provide the command and control from the master to the other turbines in the MultiPac system. The master turbine establishes communication through Ethernet and RS-485 interconnections. A MultiPac Interconnection Kit, a required option from Capstone, contains all the necessary cabling and terminators for each end of the MultiPac chain. Installation considerations must be made to accommodate communication signal lengths. Two types of signal connections are required on the communications bay for MultiPac communication: 1) Ethernet, and 2) Inter-cable (RS-485) harness. The interconnection diagram in Figure 2 shows the two types of signal interconnections. MultiPac Signal Interconnections Ethernet Ethernet signals are used for command and control signals. Commands (i.e., start/stop, power demand) are provided to the master. The master then sends resulting commands to each MicroTurbine in the MultiPac. The master routinely queries MicroTurbines for operational and fault data. Users can request data from any turbine through the master. NOTE Maximum total RG58A/U coaxial cable length is 185 meters. 410032 Rev D (February 2006) Page 5 of 16 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
