Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Advanced Power Server (APS) Figure 24. Example Facility Site Diagram 5.1. Turbine Grouping The CRMS-APS software enables the APS to control groups of turbines that have separate operational goals and/or separate locations. Figure 24 shows one example of how turbines can be grouped using CRMS-APS. In this example, six Dual Mode turbines are grouped together, five Grid Connect turbines are grouped together, and two ICHP turbines are grouped together. Under the control of a single APS, the Dual Mode group operates as the backup system for a computer room, the Grid Connect group supplements grid power to the facility through electrical load following, and the ICHP group performs heat recovery for process heating or air conditioning. Refer to paragraph 6.7, Turbine Group Configuration, for instructions on how to configure turbine groups using CRMS-APS. The turbine groups controlled by an APS consist of one Stand Alone group and up to five Grid Connect groups. Each Grid Connect group acts as a separate virtual turbine that can then have completely independent operating modes compared with the other Grid Connect groups. The Stand Alone group can be Stand Alone only or it can support a dual mode system that includes any combination of turbines from any of the Grid Connect groups. When configured for dual mode, the active Grid Connect groups will run according to their dispatch modes when utility power is normal. In the event of a power outage dual mode turbines in the Stand Alone group will operate in Stand Alone mode. This allows for a great amount of flexibility in the operation of the turbines when a power outage occurs. 410079 Rev.
