Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Advanced Power Server (APS) 3.3.1. Terminal Block Connections ELECTRICAL WARNING: All sources of electrical power to the APS cabinet MUST BE isolated prior to opening the cabinet door. APS terminal block TB1 is used to connect the APS to a power source and to external equipment. PLC connections at terminal block TB1 provide optional connections for discrete inputs and outputs, relay outputs, analog current I/O, analog voltage I/O, Resistive Thermal Detector (RTD) inputs, and thermocouple inputs. Refer to Table 2 for the wiring specifications required to connect power or discrete signal wires to the terminal block. Refer to paragraph 4, APS to Turbine Connections, for required cable lengths. NOTE: Use the shortest wiring route whenever possible. Table 2. Terminal Block Wiring Specifications CAUTION: Signal and power wiring must be routed in separate grounded conduits. Route wiring through approved conduit in accordance with local and national codes. Do not run conduit containing signal wiring next to large motors, high current switches, or transformers. Signal wires must be routed though separate conduits based on their respective power levels. Terminal Block Connection Wiring Specifications VAC Power Input (Figure 4) Stranded wire, 14 AWG minimum, hard-wired into power source with no disconnect-able power plugs. Use approved weatherproof metallic-grounded conduit. Ground conduit to APS enclosure and power source chassis. Make sure all work complies with local and national codes. RS-485 Modbus Communication Connections (Figure 5) 12 to 28 AWG two-conductor (or a multi-conductor) shielded cable, rated at 300 V at 75 °C (167 °F). Shield must be grounded at one end only–either at the APS or at the Modbus slave device. Grounding at the APS terminal is recommended. Dual Mode System Controller (DMSC) Connections. Discrete Input Connections (Figure 6) Discrete Output Connections (Figure 7) Refer to the DMSC Technical Reference (410071) for all cable connections between the APS and the DMSC. 12 to 28 AWG two-conductor (or a multi-conductor) shielded cable between TB1 and 12-24 VDC input contacts. 12 to 28 AWG two-conductor (or a multi-conductor) shielded cable between TB1 and output relays. 410079 Rev.
