Capstone Turbine Corporation  21211 Nordhoff Street  Chatsworth  CA 91311  USA Technical Reference: Dual Mode System Controller (DMSC) Connection Requirements The following paragraphs contain the requirements for the DMSC control signal interconnections. Setup Procedures NOTE In a MultiPac system, DMSC control signal connections are made to the MicroTurbine Master turbine only. The Master communicates all necessary information to the subordinate units. If using an APS, the APS functions as the Master, and the DMSC control signal connections are made to the APS. NOTE Before performing the setup procedures, make sure that the DMSC is connected to the remote disconnect device. Perform the following steps to set up the DMSC and MicroTurbine for control signal connections. CAUTION The MicroTurbine output relay MUST BE configured BEFORE connection on the MicroTurbine UCB to prevent possible damage to the DMSC. 1. Configure an available MicroTurbine output relay using CRMS to SA LOAD, ACTIVE CLOSED prior to performing any UCB communications bay hardware connections. Relay 1 and Relay 2 are used in Figure 15 and Figure 16 as examples, but any of the output relays may be used. Refer to the CRMS User Edition Technical Reference 410013 for directions configuring these output relays. 2. Connect DMSC terminal block pins 9 and 10 to the pre-selected MicroTurbine UCB or APS output relay. The selected output relay number must correspond to the assignment in CRMS (see Step 1). Refer to Figure 15 and Figure 16. 3. Connect the DMSC terminal block 3 to the MicroTurbine or APS Stand Alone Enable input. Connect the DMSC terminal block 2 to the MicroTurbine or APS Grid Connect Enable input. Connect the DMSC terminal block 4 to the MicroTurbine or APS Run/Stop input. Connect the DMSC terminal block 1 to the MicroTurbine or APS Digital Ground terminal. 4. Configure the MicroTurbine(s) to allow the hardwired control signals to operate the system properly. The DMSC can be used for the following two applications:  Dual Mode – Automatic switching between Grid Connect and Stand Alone modes.  Standby Only – Automatic starting of a standby MicroTurbine and connecting it to the protected loads if the normal grid power goes out. Table 3 summarizes the required MicroTurbine setup for each application. Refer to the CRMS User Edition Technical Reference 410013 for the procedures to set these parameters. 410071 Rev. B (January 2009) Page 35 of 71 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction. CAUTION If the remote disconnect device cycles open and closed more than three times, DE-ENERGIZE the DMSC immediately, and re-check wiring and/or the configuration of the selected solid-state relay output.
