The SMORE plots will be used to determine the statistics for the output variables analyzed in the simulation models (like TH, WIP, CT). 2.14 CASE STUDY A case study is “an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real-life context when the boundaries between phenomenon and context are not clearly evident, and in which multiple sources of evidence are used” (Yin 1984). This methodology is particularly useful when “what”, “how”, and “why” type of questions are leading the research, and there is a little or no control over behavioral events (Yin 1984, Stuart et al., 2002). According to Eisenhardt (1989) case studies typically combine data collection methods such as archival searches, interviews, questionnaires, and observation. However, this type of study has been questioned in terms of the quality of the research that can be carried out, so Kidder (1981) and Yin (1984) suggest a list of tactics to ensure validity, external validity and reliability to the research performed.
