Dehumidification kilns, commonly referred to as DH kilns, are often used to dry hardwood lumber. DH kilns are often used by companies that don’t want to install a boiler on the property, as these units run entirely off of electricity. Both the temperature and relative humidity conditions are electronically controlled to maintain chosen set points. Hardwood sawmills using a portable band saw and with no more than a few employees probably need 4000–20,000 board foot total capacity, though commercial equipment can be purchased that is designed to dry quantities as small as a few hundred board feet of lumber.
