Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Service Bulletin SB0087: Backflow Damper Leakage on a Non-Operating MicroTurbine on a Common Exhaust Duct Recommended Action Capstone recommends either of the following two options: Option 1 - Interlock All MicroTurbines on a common exhaust duct can be interlocked. If one of the interlocked units becomes non-operational, all units in the array will shut down, thus preventing any exhaust backflow. Reference Capstone Service Bulletin SB0073 for interlocking instructions. Option 2 – Isolate If one MicroTurbine on a common exhaust duct is non-operational, and the operational units remain online, then the following action is recommended if the non-operational unit cannot be brought back online within two (2) days: 1. Isolate the non-operational MicroTurbine from the common exhaust duct with a bubble tight seal. 2. Tag and lockout the MicroTurbine so that it cannot be started. Starting the MicroTurbine in this sealed exhaust duct condition may damage the engine. 3. Contact Capstone Applications Support immediately for recommendations regarding removal of condensates from the engine if isolation is not performed in the recommended timeframe. Responsibility It is Capstone's responsibility to: • Provide this Service Bulletin containing description of the problem and a recommended solution to Capstone's Authorized Service Providers. It is the Authorized Service Provider's responsibility to: • Notify the customer and, if necessary, schedule a site visit and perform the recommended service to remedy the issue. • Provide Capstone with a Field Service Report upon completion of work. 450075 Rev A (August 2008) Page 2 of 3 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
