The maintenance serial port requires a password for control operations. After a long period of inactivity (15 minutes), the maintenance serial port reverts to its unprotected state. Port Configuration The default hardware configuration for each port is 57,600 bits per second, 8-bit word length, no parity, and hardware handshake for flow control. Notation This section provides definition for common notation used throughout this document. Overview The Capstone MicroTurbineTM has two serial ports. The first is reserved for the user, and has a standard 9- pin connector with the same pinout as a Wintel computer serial port. The user may connect a computer (using a null modem adapter or a direct serial to serial cable) or a modem to this port. A modem, when connected, is detected automatically and configured for automatic answer by the MicroTurbine software as part of the configuration check during bootup. The second MicroTurbine serial port is configured for Capstone-authorized maintenance, and has a standard 25-pin connector as defined by the RS-232 specification. The maintenance port may have a computer (via null modem adapter) or modem connected, and if the modem is detected during bootup, it will be configured for auto answer. This document defines the command structure and available commands for each port. User Interface Port (UIP) The user may specify certain operational characteristics (such as voltage and frequency operational limits), command the MicroTurbine on or off, and retrieve operational history and data for external analysis. The user serial port requires a password for control operations. In its unprotected state, information and data is available for monitoring only. Control or operating parameters may be changed only after a password has been entered. After a long period (5 minutes) of inactivity, the user serial port reverts to its unprotected state.
