ST PETERSBURG SECTION 8 SILOXANE FILTRATION SYSTEM OVERVIEW The two Siloxane filtration vessels are designed to remove Siloxanes from the process gas stream. The vessels are piped in series with a bottom inlet and top outlet on each one. Also included on each vessel is a top access flange to remove and fill media, and a vent valve to purge vessel or take gas samples. As gas passes through the vessels, siloxanes are removed using the two types of siloxane media that were selected based on the siloxane species in the digester gas. Different types of siloxane media are required for sequential contaminant removal (refer to figure 8-1). AFT series A type DD fills the bottom half of each vessel, AFT series A type MD fills the top half of each vessel, leaving 8” to 12” head space between the top of the media and the vessel discharge pipe. The Siloxane removal system has no moving parts and is totally passive during operation. The biogas passes through the vessels and the siloxanes that are entrained in the gas are captured by the media, providing clean gas for combustion in the micro-turbines. The media will capture siloxanes until it is saturated, at which point siloxane “breakthrough” will occur. It is necessary to monitor the biogas for breakthrough by taking Tedlar bag samples. It is recommended to sample immediately after startup to confirm siloxane removal and then again every month or two until breakthrough has occurred, then a media change out pattern can be established.
