GENERAL SAFTY ST PETERSBURG SECTION 7 MAINTENANCE SAFETY • Compressors may start at any time. Never service equipment without disconnecting power from the entire panel. • Compressor head and discharge piping may be extremely hot. Observe warning stickers before touching the skid. • Methane gas is explosive. Never bring an open flame into the vicinity of the skid. • Wear safety glasses, gloves, and other appropriate protective gear when servicing equipment. • Observe proper safety practices when working on ladders and access platforms. Always wear safety harness for fall protection. ELECTRICAL SAFETY • Before any maintenance is performed on the gas conditioning skid, the panel disconnect should be turned off. • Never assume that a component will not start, unless the power disconnect is switched off. • Always use a volt meter to double check that there is no voltage before servicing any electrical component, even after the power disconnect is switched off. • Yellow wires mean that they are energized from an electrical source other than the panel disconnect. • Wear flame resistant clothing and other appropriate protective gear when servicing live electrical equipment. PRESSURE VESSEL SAFETY • Vessels and piping will remain pressurized even after the skid is shut down and power is disconnected. Observe multiple pressure gauges before removing plugs or opening valves • Never modify or weld to a pressure vessel • Never stand directly in the line of a plug you are removing from a vessel or pipe • Open valves slowly to ensure there is no pressure. VOC SAFETY • VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are present in biogas in varying concentrations • Exposure to VOCs can cause many acute and chronic health disorders • Biogas filtration media can capture and concentrate VOC’s and then release them to atmosphere when the filtration vessel is opened • Always wear a full face fitted respirator or SCBA system when working with open biogas filtration vessels • All operators and maintenance personnel should attend a VOC safety training course before servicing any equipment Section 7 Maintenance Page 2
