Performance Monitoring Performance monitoring consists of two operations. The first is to regularly monitor the exit water temperature using the temperature controller. The second is to periodically record performance data for later troubleshooting. Performance monitoring has the following benefits. • Periodically recording performance data can help the operator troubleshoot water temperature problems if they occur. By comparing data previously collected with data observed during a problem, it may be possible to identify conditions that are causing the water temperature output to change. • By regularly monitoring the exit water temperature and comparing it to the temperature setpoint, the operator can do the following: o Take preventive action before the water temperature gets too high. A significant water temperature increase above the desired setpoint can result in an over- temperature alarm and potentially shut down the C200 microturbine. o Take preventive action before the water temperature gets too low. If the exit temperature of the water drops significantly below the desired setpoint, it can indicate reduced efficiency in the heat transfer process and a decrease in energy recovery. 4.1. Recording Performance Data Valuable long-term information about the condition of the HRM can be obtained by periodically recording/documenting the output of the HRM and the microturbine. Ideally, it is best to begin recording data when the HRM is new, but any information obtained over time can be valuable. Recording performance data is useful for spotting trends and for providing a basis of comparison that can determine, at a later time, the reason for a failure or a decline in performance. The recommended parameters for recording are as follows: NOTE: Recording these parameters may require installation of additional equipment such as a water flow meter and temperature indicators. • Date and time of recorded data • Output power of the microturbine • Local ambient temperature at the microturbine • Water temperature at the inlet and outlet of the HRM • Water temperature setpoint • Exhaust temperature at the inlet and outlet of the HRM • Water flow rate 400021 Rev B (October 2012) Page 21 of 26 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Capstone MicroTurbine C200 Heat Recovery Module (HRM) User’s Manual
