The fuel gas specifications are listed in the following table. Another way to meet the battery charging requirement is to initiate a manual recharge at least 30 minutes prior (but no longer than 4 hours prior) to shutting down the MicroTurbine. This will initialize an equalization charge while the system is under load and ensure that the batteries are well charged at the onset of cooldown, even if a flameout results during cooldown. Once manually recharged, the system can be down as long as six months without battery recharging. With a manual recharge initiated, the minimum up-time is 30 minutes. Should the battery voltage dip between 175 and 200VDC, the system may not start in StandAlone mode and will need to be grid- started and run above the minimum power level (or manual recharge initiated) in order to recharge the batteries. Below 175VDC, the batteries must be recharged using an external charger. Only Capstone-trained Authorized Service Providers are authorized to charge the batteries externally. The battery pack contains high voltage and lethal quantities of energy. Failure to observe these and other safety guidelines can result in serious injury and/or death. The following table outlines the MedBtu settings and minimum power levels for various Btu content fuels. Btu content determines the minimum acceptable power level for the MicroTurbine. Flameouts may occur if the minimum power level is not observed. While no system damage results from flameouts, it is essential that minimum operating times be met on systems equipped with the StandAlone option. For StandAlone systems, no greater than one week of operation below the minimum acceptable power level may elapse before the system must be run above the minimum power level for at least one hour. Failure to meet this minimum requirement may result in permanent damage to the batteries. Range Btu/scf (kCal/NM3) MedBtu setting 350-700 (40-80) ‘low’ 700-970 (80-111) ‘med’ 970-1200 (111-137) ‘normal’ Minimum Power Level 15 kW 5 kW 0 kW Initiating Manual Recharge From the display: Enter password.
