Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Serial to Ethernet Converter Setup Procedure This section describes the software setup procedure for the Serial to Ethernet Converter at the customer’s site. The procedure should be carried out by a Capstone Authorized Service Provider. The device provides the ability to connect to the Capstone PowerServer or Advanced Power Server, or the MicroTurbine over a network connection. For this, it needs to be assigned a static IP and some other parameters to make it valid within the local network. The following items are requirements. 1. A Personal Computer (PC) with the following features: AnopenCOMportforcommunication. WindowsXPOperatingSystem. CRMSVersion4.25orhigher. Single Port Converter only: A VT52 or VT100 serial terminal emulator (HyperTerminal or PCComm). Single Port Converter only: A Telnet (via the DOS command prompt) or HyperTerminal connection. DualPortConverteronly:CD-ROMdrive. ContactCapstoneApplicationsSupport(seecontactinformationonthelastpage of this document) to obtain the following three items: • Firmware upgrade file • Configuration software • Configuration file 2. Cables as follows: Single Port Converter: DB9 Female to DB9 Female serial null modem cable. Dual Port Converter: RJ-45 to RJ-45 CAT-5 patch cable. 3. Dual Port Converter only: Installation setup CD-ROM. 4. Information on the required network parameters for set up. The Network Administrator responsible for the network at the installation site should be requested to provide these values.
