Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 Application Guide: Dual Mode Controller (DMC) Switching Times In the AUTO mode, when a utility outage occurs, the Protected Loads will be without power for approximately 2 to 4 minutes. When utility power is restored, the Protected Loads will be re-connected to the utility within 5 seconds. However, the MicroTurbine(s) will be down (or offline) for up to 45 minutes. Standby Only Application In the Standby Only application, the MicroTurbine(s) are used only as a standby generator. Electrical power is provided as follows: 1. During a utility outage, the MicroTurbine(s) and the Protected Loads are automatically isolated from the grid and the MicroTurbine(s) provide electrical power to the Protected Loads. 2. When utility power is restored, the MicroTurbine(s) are automatically shutdown, and the Protected Loads are re-connected to the utility grid. Standby/Grid Connect Application The MicroTurbine(s) operate normally in Grid Connect mode to offset some of the power consumed by on-site loads, and therefore reduce the power consumed from the utility. Electrical power is provided as follows: 1. During a utility outage, the MicroTurbine(s) and the Protected Loads are automatically isolated from the grid and the MicroTurbine(s) provide electrical power to the Protected Loads. 2. When utility power is restored, the Protected Loads are re- connected to the utility grid, and the MicroTurbine(s) resume operation in the Grid Connect mode.
