System Black Start If control power is not available to the UPS Controller, there may be problems in the building circuit that will prevent a successful startup sequence. If possible, provide a temporary source of control power to the UPS Controller using the power system backup batteries or other temporary source. If this is not possible, confirm that control power will become available once the microturbines are providing power to the critical loads. The battery in the UPS is able to sustain the UPS Controller for approximately 15 minutes after it has automatically shut down. Confirm that there is sufficient power system battery voltage to start the microturbines, and that fuel is available for proper starting. Unsuccessful start attempts will drain the UPS Controller’s small battery storage, and prevent a subsequent start attempt. 1. When you have confirmed that the system is ready for a black start, press the System Wakeup button on the UPS Controller. 2. Touch the display panel at any location and proceed through a Normal System Start, as described above. 3. If the UPS Controller has been connected to a temporary source of control power, reconnect it to its normal source after the start sequence is complete. The UPS batteries inside the UPS Controller will allow removing external control power for a short time while a normal connection is reestablished. Detailed Hybrid UPS Data From the top level screen shown in Figure 4, the operator can touch any of the boxes representing the Hybrid UPS microturbines to display more detailed information. 1. If the display panel is dark, touch the screen at any location to re-illuminate it. 2. Touch the appropriate box to select the desired Hybrid UPS unit. 3. The screen shown in Figure 5 will appear with information for the selected unit. 4. Touch the button labeled Main Screen to return to the top level screen. Setting the System to Standby Mode (Normal Shutdown) Changing the system from Normal to High Efficiency Mode, or changing the power demand when the system is in High Efficiency Mode, can only be done from the BMS. While the system is operating, the operator can set the system to Standby as follows: 1. If the display panel is dark, touch the screen at any location to re-illuminate it. 2. If the display is showing the Main screen, press the Maintenance screen button. This screen is password protected. Contact your ASP for your password. The Maintenance screen shown in Figure 6 will appear. 3. At the Maintenance Screen (Figure 6), press the button labeled "Standby". 4. The display will then show the Standby Confirmation popup screen and wait for user confirmation. If the Exit button is pressed, the system will continue to operate in its current mode. 5. After pressing the Standby Confirmation button, the system will begin its shutdown process. If the system was operating in High Efficiency Mode or Emergency Mode, the system will first shut down all engines and then proceed to set all microturbines to Standby. 400028 Rev B (January 2014) Page 25 of 35 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.
