Enabling and disabling can be done either on the local UPS Controller touch screen display or through the digital communications link. 4. System Start – a start command will begin the transition into the desired operating mode unless a stop or shutdown command is active. 5. Emergency Mode – the UPS Controller will always try to power the critical load output using the available Hybrid UPS microturbines in its MultiPac, even if utility power is lost. Once utility power is restored, it will return the system to the desired operating mode. It will do this regardless of any directed command to operate in UPS Mode or High Efficiency Mode. Note that the UPS Controller will not automatically enable a Hybrid UPS microturbine that has been disabled from the MultiPac in order to meet a Power Demand. 6. UPS and High Efficiency Mode – the system can be commanded to be in either of these two operating modes at any time, however it will only operate in the desired mode when all other transition state conditions have been met. Note that the means of issuing most of the above commands to the UPS Controller can be done either using the UPS Controller touch screen display panel or using the digital communication link. In either case, the control command is implemented by writing into a specific register location in the UPS Controller’s PLC. There is no priority over which device can write into the register, and therefore any command can be immediately overwritten by a subsequent communications device. Operation Under Fault Conditions The above authority and priority sections relate to what the UPS Controller itself is able to command. A fault condition in the Hybrid UPS microturbines themselves, or on the connected load, may override any UPS Controller commands and therefore take immediate priority to shut the system down. Local User Interface Overview The local user interface consists of a color display panel with touch screen capability and a System Wakeup button. Figure 3 shows a front view of the UPS Controller with the main display screen. The display panel will be available whenever control power is provided to the UPS Controller. The display has a screen saver function that will automatically shut off the screen illumination if there has been no user activity in 30 minutes.
