Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: Offshore/Coastal Systems – Hazardous and Non-hazardous Installations Introduction This Application Guide is separated into two sections: “Offshore/Coastal” and “Offshore/ Coastal for Hazardous (Class I, Div 2) Areas.” Information in the “Offshore/Coastal Systems” is general in nature and applies to both hazardous and non-hazardous areas. Offshore/Coastal Areas NOTE The following section applies to “Offshore/Coastal Areas” (non-hazardous) and “Offshore/Coastal for Hazardous (Class I, Div 2) Areas.” Performance of the offshore system may be affected due to environmental factors. See the Model C30 MicroTurbine Performance (410004) and C60 MicroTurbine Performance Technical Reference (410005) documents for further information. For additional information regarding safe operation of the Capstone MicroTurbine, refer to the MicroTurbine Users Manual (400001). Safety Precautions Safety precautions are essential when installing and operating the Capstone MicroTurbine system. Observe and adhere to the following Safety Precautions: • Command the MicroTurbine to OFF. • Disconnect the MicroTurbine to isolate the system from the load. • If the system is equipped with batteries, turn the battery isolation switch to the OFF position and unplug the battery cable. • Wait at least five minutes for residual power to dissipate. • Verify with a voltmeter that no voltage is present on any electrical terminals. • Adhere to local safety rules and codes before servicing the MicroTurbine. As an example, many sites require the presence of an operator with a portable gas detector when any electrical equipment is being serviced. Lockouts and tag-outs of gas valves and electrical circuit interruptions are required. • Have authorized site personnel verify that the area around the MicroTurbine is free from explosive gas mixtures before opening any of the panels of the enclosure, including the display panel cover. 480010-001 Rev.
