Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA User’s Manual: Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual Selecting YES closes the popup window and opens the data entry keypad shown in Figure 5. Use the number buttons to input the password (password contains numeric characters only). Touch the OK button to enter the password and close the keypad. After the password is successfully entered, the system is enabled, and the APS can be used to send commands to the turbines. 3.6.4. Engine Start Touch the green START icon to start the turbine engines in the selected group. After the turbines are spinning, the icon color changes to red and displays STOP. 3.6.5. Power Output Settings After the turbine engines are started, the turbines will not generate power until the applicable power output settings are made. How these settings are made depends on the operating mode of the turbine. Refer to Grid Connect Power Demand (paragraph 3.5.1.4) for Grid Connect requirements. Refer to Enabling Stand Alone Power Output (paragraph 3.5.2.4) to enable power output from a Stand Alone system. 3.7. Shutdown When the APS issues a Stop command, power output is reduced, followed by a period in which each turbine commanded to stop is motored at nominal speed to remove heat stored in its recuperator and engine in order to protect the system components. This overall cool down period is dependent on the turbine exhaust temperature. A restart may be attempted at any time, and a start will occur after completion of the initial cool down period. If batteries in the Dual Mode turbines require a recharge after a stop command is issued, the turbines will continue to operate with fuel in order to recharge the batteries. The turbines enter the cool down period after the batteries have reached a 90 to 95% state of charge. The batteries can require as long as 20 minutes to recharge after a stop command has been issued before entering the cool down period. 3.7.1. Emergency Stop (E-Stop) CAUTION: Repeated use of the optional Emergency Stop function will result in damage to a turbine. Use only in emergency situations. The APS does not have an input to which the user can connect an Emergency Stop (E-Stop) device. Refer to the APS-145 Technical Reference (Table 1) for instructions to connect an E-Stop switch to a turbine for a global emergency stop function in a MultiPac. A global E-Stop enables the safe and immediate shut down of the MultiPac in the event of an emergency. Activation of the E-Stop immediately shuts off fuel and electrical output. 400026 Rev E (March 2014) Page 30 of 56 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.
