Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA User’s Manual: Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual 3. Operating the APS This section describes the operation of the APS. Refer to Operating Modes (paragraph 3.5) for requirements related to the operating modes of the turbine groups. Refer to Start Up (paragraph 3.6) for instructions to start the APS and MultiPac. 3.1. MultiPac Control and Monitoring The APS functions as a single control point for a MultiPac. All monitoring and control of the turbines in the MultiPac is done through the APS by means of the following communications interface devices: • The touch screen on the APS front panel • CRMS-APS on a PC connected to the APS either directly or remotely through a TCP/IP network link • Modbus RS-485 network connected to the APS either directly or remotely through a TCP/IP network link. 3.1.1. APS User Ethernet Ports The user Ethernet ports for remote operation are RJ45 connectors located in the APS enclosure, as shown in Figure 1. Connect an Ethernet cable between any available RJ45 connector and a PC, or network switch or hub. This enables communication with the APS via the CRMS-APS software. 3.1.2. Capstone Remote Monitoring Software Capstone Remote Monitoring Software for the APS (CRMS-APS) is the optional Capstone proprietary software that can operate and control the APS from a user Ethernet port. Copies of and licenses for this software are available for purchase from Capstone. CRMS-APS is available for Windows 98/2000/NT/XP or later computer. However, the communication software is not compatible with Windows Vista at this time. Refer to the APS-145 Technical Reference (Table 1) for instructions to set up and use CRMS-APS. 3.1.3. Control Device Authority and Priority A PC connected to the APS can function as a control device for the APS. A PC can view system data at any time, but only one device can control the APS operation (that is, providing start/stop command or changes to power demand). The APS touch screen has default control authority to issue operational commands to the MultiPac. An externally connected PC will take control when a password is entered either from CRMS-APS or other software using the Capstone open communication protocol. Refer to the APS-145 Technical Reference (Table 1) for access and control of the APS via a local or remote PC. 400026 Rev E (March 2014) Page 21 of 56 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Advanced Power Server (APS) Model 145 User's Manual
