Troubleshooting with Fault Codes - Example The following sections present details of various fault codes, their meanings, and a sequential approach for troubleshooting the MicroTurbine system using the fault codes. The basic troubleshooting format is the same for all fault codes. As an example, the procedure for fault code 3006 is explained as follows: 3006 Internal Warning TCIN OP Compressor Inlet Thermistor Open System Severity Level 2 The thermistor inputs are expected to measure within a specified range. Values outside this range indicate hardware circuitry problems. The software declares a Compressor Inlet Thermistor Open condition when it reads less than -51 °C (-60 °F). Refer to the following Table for troubleshooting matrix. Symptom Probable Cause Analysis Repair Solution Low Temperature Reading Low Ambient Temperature See system specifications Increase temperature where the system is installed. Open or Loose Connection Check to make sure engine harness connections are tight at DPC and connector to TCin. Tighten engine harness connection Defective Thermistor Connect a known good thermistor to system and verify accurate ambient reading to determine if thermistor needs replacement. Replace Thermistor Faulty Engine Harness Inspect harness for intermittent connections Attempt to restart Faulty DPC Control Board DPC Control Board may need replacing. Replace DPC Control Board (See Document 513176) The table has four column heads, i.e., Symptom, Probable Cause, Analysis, and Repair Solution. Follow the instructions in each column sequentially until the problem is solved. Referring to the above table, proceed with the following sequence of troubleshooting: 1. Check the Symptom column. For this example, it shows Low Temperature Reading. 2. Check the Probable Cause column. There are five probable causes for this symptom. Start with the first one which is Low Ambient Temperature. If the probable cause is Low Ambient Temperature, then go to the Analysis column and check the System Specification. If the probable cause is valid, then go to the Repair Solution column and follow the instruction in this column which is: Increase temperature where the system is installed. 3. If the probable cause is not the Low Ambient Temperature, then go to the second item down which is the Open or Loose Connection. Follow the corresponding instructions in the Analysis and Repair Solution columns. 4. If the probable cause is not Open or Loose Connection, then sequentially go to the third item (Defective Thermistor), fourth (Faulty Engine Harness) or fifth (Faulty DPC Control Board), as required. Then follow the corresponding instructions in the Analysis and Repair Solution columns, until the problem is solved. Use the foregoing procedure for troubleshooting all other fault codes.
