Capstone Turbine Corporation 21211 Nordhoff Street Chatsworth CA 91311 USA Technical Reference: C200 Hazardous Location Fire Suppression System 4. Fire Suppression System Components The following paragraphs describe the components and operation of the Fire Suppression System. 4.1. Fire Suppression Components (MT Hazloc Area) 4.1.1. Release Tanks Release tanks are seamless steel cylinders used to store CO2 (see Figure 1) for the FSS. These cylinders have a CO2 capacity of 45 kg (100 lb.). The cylinders have a dry weight of 185 lbs. and a wet weight of 285 lbs. The CO2 is stored within the cylinder as a liquid under its own vapor pressure. Each cylinder is equipped with a forged brass valve assembly. The valve assembly provides over-pressure protection by means of an interior safety disc device. Additionally, the valve assembly provides a connection location for a CO2 discharge head and a CO2 fill point. The CO2 fill point also doubles as a connection point for an actuation control head. The Capstone-supplied FSS utilizes two release tanks, referred to as the main release tank and the extended release tank. Both tanks store the same amount of CO2, but feed into pipes of different sizes (reference Fire Suppression CO2 P&ID in Table 1). The main release tank feeds a 1⁄2-inch main release line while the extended release tank feeds a 1⁄4-inch extended release line. The difference in pipe sizes (and CO2 nozzles located within the enclosure) influence the time required for a release tank to completely discharge its contents. The main release tank will discharge its contents in approximately 1 to 2 minutes while the extended release tank will discharge its contents in approximately 10 minutes. The intent is to use the main release tank to quickly extinguish a fire within the enclosure while the extended release tank continues to add CO2 to the enclosure for extra protection. NOTE: Refer to the Fire Suppression CO2 P&ID for a Single Line Diagram of the Fire Suppression System Components. 410089 Rev A (February 2013) Page 8 of 54 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Technical Reference C200 Hazloc Fire Suppression System
