Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: C200 Hazardous Location Turbine Assembly Startup Sequence The following steps describe the pressurization and turbine start sequence for C200 hazardous location assembly. Refer to Figure 21 for a sequence flow diagram of the hazardous location system. 1. Initiate the operation of the hazardous location assembly using the START button on the hazardous location controller touch screen, or other locally or remotely connected start switch. 2. The controller pressurizes the hazardous location enclosure as follows: a. If no gas or heat is detected in the enclosure, the controller enables the blower external contactors to turn on the pressurization blowers. b. Immediately after the blowers start, pressure inside the hazardous location enclosure should stabilize at over 0.2 inch H2O. Use the pressure gauge on the rear door of the enclosure or the indicator on the controller screen to monitor enclosure pressure. c. When enclosure pressure reaches 0.2 inch H2O the pressure switch should close. If the pressure switch does not close within 30 seconds of power being applied to the blowers, power is removed and the start is aborted. d. Closure of the pressure switch sends a signal to the controller to start a three- minute purge timer. The purge timer ensures that at least 10 exchanges of volume of air circulate through the entire enclosure and components before the battery contactors are closed. e. If gas or heat is detected, at any time during the pressurization sequence, power is removed from the blowers and startup is aborted, and an alarm is shown on the controller. 3. After the purge time is completed, the controller activates the batteries and fuel controller as follows: a. The controller applies 24 VDC to the contactors in the batteries and to relay K1 on the UCB in the hazardous location assembly. b. The battery contactor coils are energized, which closes the contactors and connects the batteries to the turbine electronics to supply power for startup. When the batteries are connected, the controller sends a wakeup signal to the turbine. c. Once awake, relay K2 notifies the controller that the turbine is energized. d. UCB fuel relay (K1) coil is energized, which connects the internal fuel shutoff valve to the fuel controller. 4. The controller sends a start command to the turbine, which initiates the turbine startup sequence. 480047 Rev.
