Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: C200 Hazardous Location Turbine Assembly The electrical connections are made at the rear (engine access area) of the hazardous location enclosure through the gland plates located on the bottom panel. Refer to the O&I drawing (528350-100) for the size and locations of the gland plates. Punch a hole in each plate as necessary, and install a water-tight conduit fitting that is Zone 2, IIA and IIB, T1 compliant in the punched hole. Each gland plate is secured to the bottom panel with four self-drilling hex head screws. Fuel Supply Refer to the Fuel Requirements T echnical Reference (410002) for details about fuel preparation. If using well head gas, refer to the specifications in that document for high BTU gas. The fuel must be clean and dry, with dew point suppression. Filters, dryers, separators, and drains may be necessary to meet the fuel specification. Refer to the O&I drawing (528350-100) for the location and dimensions of the fuel inlet fitting. The fuel inlet is a Type 316 stainless steel flange fitting located below the engine access doors. A UL listed fuel regulator, coalescing filter, and manual shutoff valve must be installed in the external fuel inlet line as close as possible to the fuel inlet fitting. Refer to the C200 Product Specification (460045) for fuel inlet pressure requirements. Air and Exhaust Connections The following paragraphs describe specifications for the air inlet, air exhaust, and engine exhaust connections on the C200 hazardous location enclosure. All ducting for air system connections and engine exhaust must be purchased from vendors, and is not supplied by Capstone factory. Some suggested vendors are as follows: • Metal-Fab, Inc. http://www.metal-fabcommercial.com/applications/engineturbine_exhaust.php • Selkirk Commercial and Industrial Products http://www.selkirkcorp.com/commercial-and-industrial/ • Dynaflex Products http://www.dynaflexproducts.com/industr.html • Bebco Industries http://www.okbebco.com Air Inlet (Blower Intake) Connection Refer to the O&I drawing (528350-100) for the location and dimensions of the air inlet connection on the C200 hazardous location enclosure. The air inlet is a stainless steel flange fitting located on top of the air inlet section of the enclosure. The air inlet ducting must be 457 mm (18 inches) in diameter, and an equivalent maximum length of 10.7 m (35 feet) is allowed. This length is an estimation based on a typical 9.1 m (30 foot) straight run plus three 90-degree elbows. The duct must be constructed of 16-gauge stainless steel spiral pipe, or hot-dipped galvanized steel with epoxy coating. The duct assembly must consist of the necessary straight sections and 90-degree elbows to accommodate the installation layout. In order to comply with Zone 2, IIA and IIB, T1 requirements, the air intake of the duct assembly must be placed in a non-hazardous (unclassified) area and located to minimize the possibility of contamination of the clean air source. The inlet and all piping must be protected from mechanical damage. It is the installer’s responsibility to comply with applicable NFPA 496 and ATEX requirements, as well as all applicable local codes. 480047 Rev.
