The digester was assumed to be located in New York, a major milk-producing state. Electricity generation with waste heat recovery was assumed to be the end-use application of the biogas produced from the anaerobic process. Like the covered lagoon profile, the first objective is to develop an estimate of its cost and energy production potential. This was partially accomplished by using the FarmWare10 computer program. A second study objective was to evaluate the life-cycle economic performance of the digestion system. To accomplish the second objective, the digester cost and energy production data, as well as additional variables, were linked into CashFlow©, a model that provides the investment merit statistics NPV, IRR, SPP, and CCF.
