Primary Screens Background with Gravity Separators Foreground The primary screens will remove a significant amount of degradable organic material that could be converted to gas in an anaerobic digester. The screened materials are generally used to produce bedding after being composted for the required time periods. Gravity Separators Gravity separators varying in size from 10 feet wide by 30’ long to 24 feet wide by 80 feet long are usually placed after the primary screens. The purpose of the gravity separator is to remove the sands and silt present in the waste stream.
