tech spec C30 Application area superyachts above 30m Dimensions (L x W x H): 1,700 x 920 x 1,100mm Dry weight: 500kg Power output: 29kW Exhaust temperature: 65°C Exhaust heat energy: 64kW Maximum exhaust emissions: 1.18g per kWh NOx and 0.18g per kWh CO Nominal voltage operating range: 480VAC, three-phase 200VDC to 700VDC Nominal frequency operating range: 50Hz Maximum output current: 46A, standalone operation, with linear load Operating temperature: -20°C to 50°C Noise level: 55dB (A) at 2m 55dB (A) at 2m Remote Control: Yes into 400VAC at 50Hz three-phase output for AC applications. DC output microturbines are available with 200DC to 700DC output for use in DC bus applications, and the flexible nature of the architecture means multiple systems can be combined and controlled as a single large power source – called MultiPac. The MME microturbine solution, which can be installed on board all-new vessel designs, as well as within retrofit projects, includes an exhaust cooler with integrated heat recovery that can be used for onboard heating and cooling. The exhaust cooler has the capacity to reduce exhaust temperature to 65°C, which means that unlike diesel generators, the MME setup does not need any additional exhaust cooling treatment. Steiner says the microtubine exhaust is soot-free and practically odorless, and can be routed directly to the topside or the funnel. Reduced emissions “In the real world, with this technology, exhaust is clean and oxygen rich – approximately 18% O2 – with very low levels of air pollutants,” says the Lethantia owner. “Emissions levels are less than 1.18g/kWh NOx. Like all fuel combustion technology, the microturbine produces emissions, such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide, from the fuel combustion process, but both NO2 and CO emissions levels are dramatically reduced when compared with diesel generators.” MME offers microtubine solutions based on Capstone’s C30, C65, C130kW, 200AC and C400kW microturbine units. “What’s really beneficial is that our microturbines are scalable, so multiple units can be applied to meet the total power requirement, up to 1,000kW.” The MME C30 is for superyachts over 30m in length and measures 1,700mm long, 920mm wide and 1,100mm high. The C30 weighs 500kg and provides a power output of 29kW with an exhaust temperature of 65°C, exhaust heat energy of 64kW and maximum exhaust emissions of 1.18g/kWh NOx and 0.18g/kWh CO. Its nominal voltage operating range is 480VAC three-phase 200 to 700VDC, with a nominal frequency operating range of 50Hz. The MME C65 is for superyachts over 30m in length, but for owners looking for a little more power than what the C30 offers. The C65 model measures 1,900mm in length, 1,140mm in width and 1,200mm in height. The unit weighs 800kg and provides a power output of 64kW with an exhaust temperature of 65°C, exhaust heat energy of 12kW and maximum exhaust emissions of 1.18g/kWh NOx and 0.18g/kWh CO. Its nominal voltage operating range is 480VAC three-phase 200VDC to 700VDC, with a nominal frequency operating range of 50Hz. The recently released 200AC microturbine takes things even further. Suitable for top-end superyachts over 30m in length, this unit measures 2,800mm in length, 1,700mm in width and 2,750mm in height. It weighs 2,200kg and provides a power output of 200kW with an exhaust temperature of 65°C (or 280°C without exhaust heat exchanger, external exhaust cooler heat energy of 287kW and maximum exhaust emissions of 1.18g/ kWh NOx and 0.18g/kWh CO. Its nominal voltage operating range is 480VAC three- phase 200VDC to 700VDC, with a nominal frequency operating range of 50Hz. Point to prove For Steiner, the technology’s proven reliability and durability is just as important as its advanced inner system workings and real-world benefits. Service intervals are every 8,000 hours, which is highly impressive compared to other marine diesel-electric generators. But installing the technology – and making the system prove its worth – on the Lethantia was an important first step: “It was essential for the project to prove this technology on my own vessel,” says Steiner. “This technology is revolutionizing the marine world and I really do believe that it’s not a question of ‘if’ but rather ‘when’ microturbines become the standard for energy power supply in the yachting sector and marine world.” tech spec C65 Application area superyachts above 30m Dimensions (L x W x H): 1,900 x 1,140 x 1,200mm Power output: 64kW Exhaust temperature: 65°C Exhaust heat energy: 12kW Maximum exhaust emissions: 1.18g per kWh NOx and 0.18g per kWh CO Nominal voltage operating range: 480VAC, three-phase 200VDC to 700VDC Nominal frequency operating range: 50Hz Maximum output current: 120A, standalone operation, with linear load Operating temperature: -20°C to 50°C Noise level: 55dB (A) at 2m Remote control: Yes Electric & Hybrid Marine Technology International // April 2014 // 76
