Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Glossary of Terms and Acronyms DIAGNOSTIC TEST - This is a test of a product to determine if all parts are functioning properly. If the diagnostic test determines that there is problem, the test also attempts to isolate which part of the product is not performing correctly. (Isolation down to a single part is seldom perfect, but always will narrow the possible malfunctions to make the service personsí job easier.) DIRECTION OF ROTATION ñ The direction of rotation is determined by the direction the turbine rotor rotates when you are positioned aft looking in the forward direction (from the UCB to the air inlet). Capstone MicroTurbine generators rotate clockwise. DIRECTIVE ñ EU Law, specifying compliance legislation that applies to a product that is placed on the market or put into service. DISPLAY (OR DISPLAY PANEL) ñ A user interface panel that allows the user to monitor the MicroTurbine generator system activity, or supply input to the system. DMC ñ Dual Mode Controller. Provides the MicroTurbine user with the capability to automatically transition from Grid Connect operation to isolated Stand Alone operation when a utility outage occurs. When utility power is restored, the DMC can be set to automatically return the MicroTurbine to Grid Connect service. The DMC also allows the MicroTurbine to be used as an automatically dispatched standby generator. DPC ñ Digital Power Controller. Controls the MicroTurbine operations and all power conversion. During MicroTurbine start-up, the DPC operates as a variable frequency drive supplying power to the turbogenerator until sufficient power is available from the turbogenerator. DSP ñ Digital Signal Processor. DYNAMIC BRAKE - A technique of using a motor as a generator to apply a mechanical load to a rotating system. A second definition is the use of a brake resistor to dissipate power from a generator (or a motor used as a generator) thereby applying a mechanical load to a rotating system. EAL ñ External Auxiliary Load. ECM ñ Engine Control Module (Model C60). ECM INDUCTORS ñ Used to decrease the frequency ripple from the motor-generator reducing stator and rotor heating. EDI ñ Electronic Data Interchange. EMI ñ Electromagnetic Interference. Impairment of wanted electromagnetic signal by an electromagnetic disturbance.
