Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Protective Relay Test Adapter The MicroTurbine initiates a Grid Fault Shutdown if it detects any of the following conditions: • Over Voltage or Under Voltage • Over Frequency or Under Frequency When a Grid Fault Shutdown is initiated during normal operation, the following occur: • Output power flow ceases within 1.0 msec • The power output contactor is opened within 100 msec, isolating the MicroTurbine from the Electric Utility grid and the local load • Fuel flow to the MicroTurbine stops The PRTA has an input voltage range of 0 to 150 Vrms, measured line-to-neutral. Input connections on the PRTA are sheathed banana jacks. This voltage is stepped-up to the range of 0 to 375 Vrms line-to-neutral, the level required by the MicroTurbine. The output voltage connection to the MicroTurbine is via a cable with molded connectors (supplied with the PRTA) that allows only one possible orientation. The relay trip response signal from the MicroTurbine to the PRTA is also carried via a cable with molded connectors (supplied with the PRTA) that allows only one possible orientation. The relay trip response signal from the PRTA to the Tester is carried by a cable (supplied with the PRTA) with a molded connector on one end and banana plugs on the other. For protection of both the Tester and the MicroTurbine, the PRTA incorporates internal fuses which blow if the PRTA input voltage exceeds 150 Vrms. Use With MultiPac MicroTurbine Systems The PRTA and Electric Utility relay testing device cannot be used to test a MicroTurbine that is part of a MultiPac. The MicroTurbine to be tested must be completely disconnected from any other MicroTurbines before continuing. NOTE The PRTA’s internal fuses are not user accessible or replaceable. If you suspect that the fuses are blown, the PRTA should be returned to Capstone Turbine Corporation 410006-001 Rev A (June 2002) Page 3 of 15 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
