Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Advanced Power Server (APS) 5.2.4.2 Maximum Efficiency Maximum efficiency mode employs an algorithm that tries to run the minimum number of turbines at or near full power to meet the load demand. In so doing, it can turn off turbines that are not needed to meet the power demand, thereby minimizing fuel costs. This mode is available for both Grid Connect and Stand Alone groups. A spinning reserve setting helps to ensure that any potential step load will not overload the set of turbines that are running at the time. 5.2.4.3 Power Setpoint Use the power setpoint mode to set up a manually configured maximum efficiency scheme. This is done by entering settings for each turbine in a group at which it will turn on or off. The settings used are as follows: • On Power Threshold • Off Power Threshold • On Time Delay • Off Time Delay To configure the power setpoint mode, set the on and off power demand levels associated with each individual turbine in the group. The On Delay option determines the time the individual turbine waits to start after the power demand exceeds the On Threshold level. Similarly the Off Delay option determines the time the individual turbine waits to turn off once the power demand drops below the Off Threshold level. This dispatch mode is only available for Grid Connect group operation. The APS has an internal function dedicated to making sure that the APS controller is functioning correctly. If for any reason the APS controller ceases to operate normally, a hardware reset line will trigger the reset of the APS controller. This reset will trigger any time that any internal main process within the controller fails to reset the hardware safety timer within 50 seconds. 5.2.5. Operating Features and Power Dispatch Modes Not all features are available with all operating modes. Additionally, not all operating modes are compatible with both the Stand Alone and Grid Connect configurations. Refer to Table 1 for a list of the allowable combinations of all of the modes, settings, and features. 410079 Rev.
