Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Technical Reference: Dual Mode System Controller (DMSC) Stand Alone-to-Grid Connect Transition The following sequence of events occurs during the automatic transfer from Stand Alone mode to Grid Connect mode. 1. The utility voltage is not acceptable (undervoltage relay in the DMSC is tripped). The DMSC POWER switch (S1) is set to ON, and the MODE switch (S2) is set to AUTO. The remote disconnect device (M1) is open. The microturbine and protected loads are isolated from the utility. The microturbine is operating in Stand Alone mode and is providing power to protected loads. The latched relay LRL1 is set because the remote isolation switch was opened by shunt-trip command from the DMSC. 2. The utility outage ends. Following the restart time delay set on the UVR in the DMSC, the normally open UVR contacts close, and the normally closed UVR contacts open. 3. The LINE POWER lamp (LP2) illuminates. 4. Relay RL1 energizes. This opens the normally closed contacts of RL1, and the microturbine Stand Alone enable is pulled high (disabled). 5. The microturbine initiates an orderly shutdown, transitioning from the Stand Alone Load state to the Stand Alone Recharge (Hot Standby) state, and its output contactor(s) open. Protected loads are de-energized. 6. The LOAD POWER lamp (LP1) extinguishes. 7. The output relay in the User Connection Bay (UCB) programmed SA LOAD ACTIVE CLOSED and connected to terminals 9 and 10 of the DMSC will open. 8. Relay RL4 de-energizes. This opens the normally open contacts of RL4, and relay RL9 is de-energized. In addition, the normally closed contacts or RL4 close. 9. Timer Relay TR is energized. This closes the TR normally open contacts and starts the delayed contact transition. 10. TR delayed contact (NCTO) closes and TR delayed contact (NOTC) opens. This energizes relay RL11, and the normally open contacts of RL11 close, which energizes the OFF line of the motor operator. The motor operator moves the remote disconnect device (M1) to the OFF position. Relay RL10 remains de-energized and the ON line of the motor operator is de-energized. 11. Timer Relay TR activates the delayed contacts. TR delayed contact (NCTO) opens and TR delayed contact (NOTC) closes. This de-energizes relay RL11 and energizes relay RL10. The normally open contacts of RL11 open, which de-energizes the OFF line of the motor operator, and the normally open contacts of RL10 close, which energizes the ON line of the motor operator The motor operator moves the disconnect device (M1) to the ON position. 12. Auxiliary contacts M1-A1 open, the normally open contacts of RL7 open, TR de-energizes, contacts TR and TR (NOTC) open and contact TR (NCTO) closes. Both the ON and OFF lines of the motor operator are now de-energized, therefore, the remote disconnect device (M1) remains in the closed position. Auxiliary contacts M1-A2 close, normally open contacts RL8 close, and the microturbine Grid Connect enable is pulled low (enabled). Also, the latched relay LRL1 is reset. 410071 Rev D (January 2010) Page 51 of 71 Capstone reserves the right to change or modify, without notice, the design, specifications, and/or contents of this document without incurring any obligation either with respect to equipment previously sold or in the process of construction.PDF Image | Dual Mode System Controller DMSC
