Capstone Turbine Corporation • 21211 Nordhoff Street • Chatsworth • CA 91311 • USA Application Guide: Capstone Protective Relay Control/Status Inputs The control/status inputs, INPUT1 and INPUT2, can be programmed to block any of the protective functions. The control/status inputs accept only dry contacts and are internally wetted (9 V dc) by the relay’s power supply. A minimum current of 1.3 mA is required to avoid spurious triggering of the input. Communication Communications ports include a front panel RS-232 port and a rear port user configurable to RS- 232 or RS-485. The RS-232 ports are connected physically with a DB-9 connector and the RS- 485 port utilizes 4-wire interface mounting screw terminals. Installation Panel Mounting and Component Layout and Dimensions Refer to Figure 5 for mounting hole dimensions and component layout. Refer to Figure 6 for panel dimensions. Safe removal of the Beckwith 3410A Care must be taken when disconnecting the Beckwith 3410A from the Capstone Protective Relay panel. The following I/O must be isolated before the Beckwith 3410A is disconnected: 1) Voltage switch assembly – 3 switches isolates the 3-phase voltages. 2) Current switch assembly – 3 switches shunt out the secondary winding of current sensors. 3) Power supply input – fuses F1 and F2 need to be opened to isolate power to the Beckwith 3410A Relay. 4) Output Contacts – fuses F3, F4, F5, F6, F7 and F8 need to be opened to isolate power to the Beckwith 3410A Relay. 5) RS485 terminal – the device with which the Beckwith Relay is communicating needs to be disconnected or powered down. NOTE: A digital multimeter should be used to ensure all terminals have no potential voltage. Electrical Connections For point to point connections when installing the Capstone Protective Relay refer to Terminal Block 1 (Figure 7) and wiring diagram (Figure 8). Electrically integrating the Capstone Protective Relay into the main bus will be defined by the interconnection agreement supplied by the local electric utility. This is generally installed at the point of common coupling. The current sensors need to be sized according to the rating of the main distribution board. The voltage sensing inputs do not need voltage transformers as long as the nominal voltage is ≤ 480Vac. See Figure 9 for a single line diagram of a typical installation. 480015 Rev B (May 2006) Page 6 of 12 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
