4.2.3. Comparison of Drying Problems and Issues Results from the European and the present study regarding drying problems and issues are compared from section 4.2.4. to section 4.2.8. Two sample t-tests (significance level a = 0.05) were performed (using variance values from the Canadian data for calculations as mentioned in section 4.2.1.) and t statistics are presented for issues about dried product quality, drying process, kiln control and kiln drying related knowledge of groups. 4.2.4. Comparison of Dried Product Quality Problems For the dried product quality category, the compared mean values were on a 1 to 5 interval scale, where: • 1 signified not a concern • 2 signified not much of a concern • 3 signified a moderately serious issue • 4 signified a serious issue • 5 signified a major issue Table 24 shows mean values for dried product quality problems and the difference between them. In every dried product quality problem (except achieving target moisture content), the differences between the two regions were significant (alpha = 0.05). In addition, Canada always scored lower values, signifying a lower concern for every problem in this category. 74PDF Image | KILN DRYING PROBLEMS AND ISSUES IN CANADA
