Compaction & Debulk • For thick laminates, even transfer of pressure can be difficult. – Potential issues: Ply bridging, resin richness/starvation, etc. • Intermediate steps often taken in layup: – Ply compaction – bag the plys and let it compress under vacuum (some times as often as every two plys) – Hot debulk: bag the part, heat it and let it compress (lower temperature than cure temp), e.g. 200°F for 350°F curing prepreg (done much less often than RT compaction) 75
