Safety Precautions Only Capstone Authorized Service Providers (ASP’s) should open the MicroTurbine and other equipment connected to the MicroTurbine. The systems can include multiple sources of power. Observe and adhere to the Safety Instructions contained within the MicroTurbine manuals. Summary External battery wake connections to the JUCB J10-6 (BAT_START) on the Model C60 MicroTurbine, may cause spurious battery wake events due to noise pick-up, and drain the MicroTurbine battery pack. External battery wake connections should be made via the isolated battery wake inputs JUCB J10-3 (ISO B-START+) and JUCB J10-2 (ISO B-START-). The wake signal must be momentary (applied for between 0.1 to 2 seconds). If the signal is applied for less than 0.1 second, the unit may not wake up at all. If the signal is applied for longer than 2 seconds, the unit will start to wake up, but may go back into sleep mode before the initial boot up process is complete. The unit will then remain asleep even when the wake signal is applied continuously. An installation where the wake signal is applied for more than 2 seconds may fail to wake up in service even though it did wake up correctly during commissioning. Therefore, it is important that the required modifications be carried out even if the unit has woken up successfully in the past. Corrective Action 1. DO NOT connect external battery wake circuits to JUCB J10-6 (BAT_START). This is reserved for internal use. 2. External circuit connections for battery wake should be made via the isolated battery wake inputs JUCB J10-3 (ISO B-START+) and JUCB J10-2 (ISO B-START-). 3. The external wake signal must apply between +4V and +15V from JUCB J10-3 (ISO B-START+) to JUCB J10-2 (ISO B-START-), for a time interval of between 0.1 second and 2 seconds. Wake signals applied for less than 0.1 second or more than 2 seconds may cause the MicroTurbine wake sequence to fail or will drain the JUCB battery. 450005-001 Rev A (August 2002) Page 1 of 4 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
