Safety Precautions Only Capstone Authorized Serviced Providers (ASPs) should open the MicroTurbine and other equipment connected to the MicroTurbine. The systems can include multiple sources of power. The fuel used by the MicroTurbine is flammable and explosive. Keep flames, cigarettes, sparks, and electrical arc-producing equipment away from the MicroTurbine. Observe and adhere to the Safety Instructions contained within the MicroTurbine documentation. Summary This service bulletin is intended to notify Authorized Service Providers of possible component damage relating to MicroTurbine systems sharing a common exhaust duct with Capstone supplied Backflow Dampers installed. Per previously issued Capstone Service Bulletin SB0073, all MicroTurbines on a common exhaust duct must run simultaneously. In addition, Capstone requires a wiring interlock mechanism to be installed between MicroTurbine systems to stop the operation of all MicroTurbines if any individual MicroTurbine ceases operation. This interlock is required unless a Capstone-supplied exhaust Backflow Damper is properly installed in the individual exhaust ducts of each MicroTurbine feeding the common exhaust duct. When Capstone Backflow Dampers are used, additional measures are recommended to protect non-operational MicroTurbines. Since Capstone Backflow Dampers do not provide a bubble-tight seal, installations with two or more MicroTurbine systems sharing a common exhaust duct will allow a small leakage of hot exhaust into the non-operating unit. The water content in this leakage exhaust may condense in the non-operating engine recuperator and power head, potentially causing damage to the engine. 450075 Rev A (August 2008) Page 1 of 3 This information is proprietary to Capstone Turbine Corporation.
