Troubleshooting with Fault Codes - Example The following sections present details of various fault codes, their meanings, and a sequential approach for troubleshooting the MicroTurbine system using the fault codes. The basic trouble- shooting format is the same for all fault codes. 3006 Internal Warning TCIN OP Compressor Inlet Thermistor Open System Severity Level 2 For example, the procedure for Fault Code 3006 is explained below. Note that only the top three probable causes, analyses, and repair solutions are shown in the following table. (Refer to Series 3000 Fault Codes section for more details.) The thermistor inputs are expected to measure within a specified range. Values outside this range indicate hardware circuitry problems. The software declares a Compressor Inlet Thermistor Open condition when it reads less than -51 °C (-60 °F). Symptom Probable Cause Analysis Repair Solution Low Temperature Reading Low Ambient Temperature See system specifications Increase temperature where system is installed Faulty Harness Connection Check Engine harness from J4 on ECM Control Board to ACM connector J1, and compressor inlet thermistor harness from ACM connector J2 to the thermistor. Secure connection or replace harness Defective Thermistor Connect a known good thermistor to system and verify accurate ambient reading to determine if thermistor needs replacement. Replace Thermistor The above table has four column heads, i.e., Symptom, Probable Cause, Analysis, and Repair Solution. Referring to the above table, proceed with the following troubleshooting sequence: 1. Check the Symptom column. For this example, it shows Low Temperature Reading. 2. Check the Probable Cause column. Three probable causes are shown for this symptom. Start with the first one which is: Low Ambient Temperature. To verify this, go to the Analysis column and follow the respective instruction which is: See system specifications. If the probable cause is verified, go to the Repair Solution column and follow the respective instruction which is: Increase temperature where system is installed. 3. If the probable cause is not Low Ambient Temperature, then go down to the second probable cause which is: Faulty Harness Connection. To verify this, go to the Analysis column and follow the instruction which is: Check Engine harness from J4, etc.... If the probable cause is verified, go to the Repair Solution column and follow the instruction which is: Secure connection or replace harness. 4. If the probable cause is not Faulty Harness Connection, go down to the third, fourth, or other probable causes in sequence and follow instructions in Analysis and Repair Solution columns as required. Use the foregoing procedure for troubleshooting all other fault codes as required.
